Initial Situation:
The National Gallery of Canada (NGC) wanted an interactive tour similar to the one on the Tate Britain Art Gallery website. N-VisionIT Interactive and Teknision Inc. collaborated to build both Flash and HTML tours of the NGC. We built the database-driven functions of the tour and created the HTML version.
N-VisionIT Interactive Solutions:
We built the Flash backend by creating XML schemas for the different functions and Teknision Inc. incorporated the schemas into their Flash programming. We enhanced the NGC's database to include additional information about the rooms of the gallery (e.g. name, description, floor, public/private, etc.) to facilitate browsing and accurate representation of the art on display.
Gallery staff can identify the location of an artwork whether in storage, on loan, or on display so that the representation of the collections on the interactive tour remains accurate and shows only artwork currently on display. We also added the new functionality that would allow gallery staff to designate 'show rooms' which take users to information about special exhibitions (e.g. dates, description, etc.).
Results:
Client is pleased with functionality and appearance. Client has also expressed appreciation of our accommodation of complex development environment infrastructure and security requirements and our responsiveness to alterations.

RETURN TO PORTFOLIO
The Cybermuse Interactive Virtual Tour is an online replica of the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) in Ottawa, Canada. The site allows visitors to tour the art gallery online and, either to follow a themed tour or to create a custom tour so that they can plan their visit to the NGC, right down to the specific rooms. The user-customised tours are created by browsing artwork by room or by artist and can then be shared with friends and family via e-mail in printer-friendly formats.
